Axelsen’s debut loss marks second day of Huelva 2021

Some of the first figures advance in the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2021 on the second day held today December 13 at the Carolina Marín Sports Palace (Huelva). Lights, shadows, surprises, and above all the best badminton from early in the morning.

The number 1 in the ranking and favorite to win the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships title (revalidating his 2017 World Championship gold), Viktor Axelsen [2] (Denmark), lost his match against an electrifying, powerful and determined Loh Kean Yew (Singapore), who managed to get the victory giving the surprise of the day. Loh, ranked 22nd in the ranking, had faced the Dane up to 4 times (none of them successfully), managed to come back and close the match in less than 1 hour (14-21, 21-9 and 21-6).

On the other hand, Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus achieved the victory for Denmark in a tight match against the Vietnamese Tien Minh Nguyen with a final score of 21-16, 21-23 and 21-10.

The local player Luis Enrique Peñalver raised passions after winning his match against the player Luis Armando Montoya Navarro (Mexico) closing the match in two sets: 21-15 and 21-13. Peñalver showed his joy and satisfaction with his result after his debut in Huelva:

In women’s singles, in the last match of the day, Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt managed to come back in her match (12-21, 21-14 and 21-15) and win against a Qi Xuefei who jumped to the court forceful and resolute.

In men’s doubles, the Japanese Akira Koga – Taichi Saito did not disappoint and won the match against the Chinese duo Di Zi Jian – Wang Chang, 21-9 and 21-13. After the match, the Japanese still had strength and were encouraged to “play” with Spanish by reading some typical words of our culture:

In women’s doubles, Ng Tsz Yau – Yuen Sin Ying (Hong Kong) left without options the Scottish Julie Macpherson – Ciara Torrance, who were trying not to get off the scoreboard (21-15, 20-22 and 21-12).

Finally, in mixed doubles, the Germans Patrick Scheiel – Franziska Volkmann beat the Indian duo Utkarsh Arora – Karishma Wadkar; 22-20 and 21-16, starring in one of the most exciting matches of the day.

Tomorrow, December 14, will start at 9:00 am. The world championship will be held until December 19, displaying the full potential of the players representing the various world delegations. The event can be followed live on RTVPlay and Teledeporte. Also, and immediately, through the social networks of Huelva2021 (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
