Huelva 2021 progress at the highest level

Fourth day, corresponding to the last part of the 32nd round of the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2021, successfully held today December 14 at the Carolina Marín Sports Palace (Huelva).

Denmark has been one of the protagonists of the day’s delegations, capturing all the attention and adding victories in almost all the matches played in the different modalities, 7 out of 8 games.

In men’s singles, Rasmus Gemke [11] added the first victory to the Danish general scoreboard after beating a combative and acclaimed local player Luis Enrique Peñalver. The Spanish player gave up 4 set points (20-16) in the first set, which Gemke took advantage of to take control of the rest of the match, closing the match at 22-20 and 21-12. Hours later, his partner Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus beat in a thrilling match (if not the most of the day), the number 9 seed of the event Kanta Tsuneyama, 11-21, 21-13 and 21-17. To close the Danish trio, Anders Antonsen [3] added another goal after beating Niluka Karunaratne (Sri Lanka) in a convincing manner: 21-11 and 21-15.

As if that wasn’t enough, Denmark also managed to win a place in the next round in women’s singles, where Line Christophersen added another victory after her rival Busanan Ongbamrungphan [11] retired shortly after the start of the match due to an injury.

The Danish team’s victories did not end only in singles. In men’s doubles, the solid Kim Astrup – Anders Skaarup Rasmussen [7] proved their high level against the Japanese pair Akira Koga – Taichi Saito, in a show of speed and endurance (21-17 and 21-19). In women’s doubles, the point was assured; Maiken Fruergaard – Sara Thygesen [11] won against their teammates Alexandra Bøje – Mette Poulsen in three sets. Finally, in mixed doubles, Mathias Christiansen – Alexandra Bøje [12] did the same and added the last set, winning the match against the Chinese pair Guo Xin Wa – Zhang Shu Xian: 21-16, 17-21 and 21-14.

On the other hand, Spain is already out of options after all the local players fell. In addition to Peñalver in singles, in men’s doubles Joan Monroy – Carlos Piris lost the match against one of the favorite couples of the tournament, the German duo Mark Lamsfuss – Marvin Seidel [12], 21-13 and 21-15, thus ending the Spanish participation in the World Championship of Huelva 2021.

Tomorrow, December 16, corresponding to the round of 16, will start at 9:00 am. The world championship will be held until December 19, displaying the full potential of the players representing the different world delegations. The event can be followed live on RTVPlay and Teledeporte. Also, and immediately, through the social networks of Huelva2021 (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
